Christmas Dinner at the White Horse Hotel

White Horse Xmas Dinner

Everyone certainly had the spirit here at the White Horse restaurant on Christmas night. Our chef Ryley served up a delicious traditional Christmas feast with turkey, chicken, roasted veges… the lot! The spirit lifted even higher as the snow continued to fall… and fall and fall and fall! The wine and conversation flowed as guests & visitors compared stories of their Christmas fun on the mountain.

If you’re around – join us for our next do at the White Horse… our New Years Eve party!

Happy Holidays!

Beautiful Echoland…

Beautiful Echoland

Each morning I walk to work down the main street of Echoland to the White Horse Hotel, and each morning it’s prettier than the morning before. Roofs covered in snow, front porches completely buried, trees barely able to stand with the weight on their branches, and 1 metre snow walls on the sides of the road. Occasionally as I’m walking, I’m lucky enough to witness the incredible surge as a slab of powdery snow at least a foot deep slides off a rooftop into the huge heap already formed below… the sound it makes as it hits the ground is my favourite part. Hakuba has turned into the most beautiful White Winter Wonderland and I’m still pinching myself to make sure it’s real 🙂

The White Horse Hotels in Hakuba

This was put together by the team at White Horse Hotels in Hakuba a couple of seasons ago but is a good showcase of what we have. Please enjoy.

Update on conditions – pow pow and more pow. It is still dumping down here in Hakuba. The pick today for me was the Sakka area of Happo One. I’m not sure where everyone else went but there was certainly not many around there.

Merry Christmas in Hakuba

welcome to Hakuba

Merry Christmas from us all in Hakuba

And a very Merry Christmas to all our friends and families amongst us at the White Horse group.  We will all take a moment today to remember all of our loved ones and even though we are in another part of the world we are thinking of them. Love from us all.

So this is Christmas
And what have you done
Another year over
And a new one just begun
Ans so this is Christmas
I hope you have fun
The near and the dear one
The old and the young

A very merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let’s hope it’s a good one
Without any fear
And so this is Christmas
For weak and for strong
For rich and the poor ones
The world is so wrong
And so happy Christmas
For black and for white
For yellow and red ones
Let’s stop all the fight
A very merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let’s hope it’s a good one
Without any fear
And so this is Christmas
And what have we done
Another year over
And a new one just begun
Ans so this is Christmas
I hope you have fun
The near and the dear one
The old and the young
A very merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let’s hope it’s a good one
Without any fear
War is over over
If you want it
War is over
Now…

Hakuba pow

Our first video for our blog and of the season! Taken today, Christmas Eve, in the beautiful powder… Filmography and riding by Chris, our White Horse Bartender – proving he can do more than just make my favourite ‘Full Breakfast’ cocktail.

Just a little taste of what’s to come… Enjoy

What a day…

So much snow
So much snow

OK – maybe I’m not going to win photographer of the year with this photo, but to be honest – there was so much snow that none of my other photos came out! At least you get the gist… snow, snow and more snow. I’ve never seen anything like it. Yesterday morning we were all starting to get just a little bit bummed out about the wait, and then this… and it just hasn’t stopped.

I had more than a few falls in it today, but each time I fell I just laughed as it literally felt like falling on a cloud. There was a slight moment of panic when my ski came off and literally got buried – took me about 10 minutes to find it.

It’s still dumping down hard and hasn’t stopped since last night. Tomorrow – Christmas Day – is going to be magic. Hard work, but magic. Hope to see you out there. Merry Christmas!

Beautiful Powder at Happo

Beautiful Powder at Happo

Another stunning day in Hakuba today… blue skies, relatively warm and still lots of snow! A handful of lifts open, so plenty of hikers climbing to quench their thirst, but with more snow due on Tuesday, shouldn’t be long till we’re cruising the whole mountain… can’t wait 🙂

Snowing in Hakuba

25cm and still dumping

25cm is what the ruler says. The snow continues to fall

A late night in the office meant that I saw a sprinkling of snow at 3 am outside. Not expecting too much this morning but as Hakuba commonly shows, the forecasts get it wrong again. By 10am we have 25cm accumulated in the valley which usually equates to double on the top of the mountain. It is still currently puking down and this will pretty much open everything up. The real start to the season.

Blue Bird Powder Day in Hakuba

Blue Bird powder day

A beautiful sight to see in the morning here in Hakuba

After some more snow over the last couple of days we woke up to a magnificent blue bird day. For those lucky enough to get up on the mountain early there were lots of fresh tracks to be had. More snow due tonight.
